He may be the most stoked individual you’ll ever meet, It’s contagious and he’ll probably bring the best out of you. It has always been Marty’s vision to bring together industry professionals and the recreational enthusiast for an approachable, educational good time in the mountains. Marty organizes his whole life around fun, something his parents instilled as a core value from an early age. Son of Al and Marion Schaffer who raised Marty through the family operation Blanket Glacier Chalet.

AST 1 Course
Build the foundation!
This is where you start. Avalanche Canada’s nationally recognized Avalanche Skills Training Level One or AST 1 for short is known as the prerequisite for anyone looking to get into the avalanche backcountry environment. Our BLAST courses (Backcountry Learning and Avalanche Skills Training) are based on the most advanced knowledge available to teach the fundamentals of decision making in backcountry avalanche terrain.
We provide a big picture approach and teach tips and tricks to set you up for success for when you’re out there on your own (with a friend, just perhaps not a guide).
If you’re looking for the opportunity to get a skill set customized to your ability and learning style, this one-on-one coaching in terrain you want to tackle and in realistic condition will set you up for success in your ski-touring adventures. What a BLAST!
