Telluride's Via Ferrata, "Iron Way", is truly unique. It emerged from the wild mind and unrelenting hands of a local legend. Charles Frederick “Chuck” Kroger was a pioneering climber, ultra runner, cyclist, master craftsman, and mountain renaissance man who left this world too soon. His creation is a series of narrow hiking paths and rugged iron ladder stairs welded into a conglomerate cliff towering above the town of Telluride. Climbers secure themselves into a metal cable that runs along the face of the rock, enjoying breathtaking exposure and spectacular views. This 4.8 mile loop involves some trail sections, without cable, that are narrow and exposed. Your guide can add peace of mind and additional security with a variety of rope systems. While no previous experience is required, a moderate level of fitness is a must.
